Omega-3 fish oils have become one of the most popular trending superfoods in recent years due to their numerous health benefits. Omega-3 fatty acids are essential for a healthy diet and can have various positive effects on well-being. Here are a few reasons to make sure your customers know about omega-3.

The American Heart Association recommends eating fish at least twice a week. Supplements are another quick and easy way your customers can get their recommended omega-3 intake. The FDA recommends getting no more than 3 grams per day with no more than 2 from a dietary supplement.

Reduced risk of heart disease

Omega-3 fatty acids reduce the risk of coronary heart disease, a claim that’s been confirmed by the FDA. Heart disease is a leading cause of death in the United States, so omega-3 fish oil can help protect again this potentially serious health issue.

Reduce triglycerides

Triglycerides, a type of fat found in the blood, are necessary for a healthy diet but can be harmful at excessive levels. Fish oil can reduce triglycerides, including in people with a genetic condition that causes an abnormally high triglyceride count.

Improve fat metabolism

Fish oil could help some people lose weight, one if its lesser-known benefits. Researchers in Kyoto, Japan, found that fish oil supplements effectively converted fat storage cells into fat-burning cells. The mice that consumed fish oil in their study gained 15 to 25 percent less fat than the mice that didn’t get any fish oil.

Reduce acne

Fish oil could also help improve skin complexion. 60 percent of volunteers in a 2012 study saw significant improvements in their acne after 12 weeks with 3 grams of fish oil a day.

Boost memory

Fish oil pills could improve cognitive function too. One study found that daily fish oil supplements helped improve participants’ memory by 23 percent.

Improve eye health

Believe it or not, fish oil could even be good for eyesight. A 2009 National Eye Institute study found that the participants who consumed the most fish oil were less likely to experience macular degeneration.

Omega-3 fish oils are well known for their heart-healthy benefits, but they have a range of lesser-known benefits too. From weight loss to better-looking skin to improved mental function, it’s easy to see why you’d want to make sure you’re stocking plenty of fish oil.
