eSports Nutrition? Let's talk about it
There is no hiding that the eSports market has been blowing up for awhile. eSports teams are growing and the need to perform at a high level continuously is an issue for some eSports athletes. Yet, believe it or not, eSports Nutrition is still in it's infancy...
eSports teams recognize that nutrition is an important factor to keep their team performing like experts. Teams have taken action by hiring nutritionist to make sure their athletes are eating the right foods and taking the right supplements.
More and more are recognizing this need and companies are fighting for market share. Red Bull and G-Fuel have been approaching this industry from different angles, but I still feel that there is still some room for creativity for the market.
The energy drink giant Red Bull has been involved in all types of sports. Now they have started a eSports team, sponsoring high performance athletes around the globe. Red Bull has not made a specific product for the eSports industry, rather they are marketing their already successful energy drinks to the eSports crowd.
Red Bull's big pick up was when they signed the Fortnite giant Tyler Blevins, also known as "Ninja." Ninja has been known for his comical/exciting twitch streaming. He currently has a total of 12.4 million followers on Instagram, 3.8 million followers on Twitter, and tens of thousands of live viewers every time he streams. Red Bull & Ninja worked together to put together a competitive Fortnite tournament to kick off their relationship that was nothing short of successful. Registrations were full in MINUTES. While Red Bull has been very active in the eSports industry, they don't seem to be making an eSports specific product any time soon.
G-fuel on the other hand is all in for eSport Nutrition. G-Fuel has been a supplement company since 2012. They are so confident with their product, they have called themselves "The Official Energy Drink of eSports®." That's right. They actually trademarked it. Good for them! I think that was a genius move for them! Don't let something like this scare you away from the market. There are still plenty of angles to use to branch into eSports Nutrition.
G-Fuel also took the route of sponsoring athletes and actually went as far as sponsoring numerous teams! This lead to their explosive market share in the eSports Nutrition Industry. I don't want to sell G-Fuel short at all because it wasn't just their sponsoring but they have a product that works. They created a product that gives a great amount energy, enhancing cognition and NO CRASH. The packaging is extremely buy-able with its bright colors and amazing flavors. This is definitely a valuable product to all eSports Athletes.
So what are you going to do to set yourself apart?
More eSports supplement companies are starting to emerge and they have so much room for creativity. The areas that are valuable to eSports athletes are performance, energy, cognition, enhancing memory, fueling mental speed and meal replacements. Marketing is key to capturing a part of this market. Create a new product for the market and have a creative angel that sets you apart!
